Harvinaisen Kaunis Elämä: Finnabair Art Recipe March

I had an embroidery hoop I wanted to turn into a simple artwork piece, and challenger myself that I could use only 10 decorative pieces for the whole composition, with addition of silk ribbon. I couldn’t quite manage, as after making the composition within those lines, I ended up adding 4 art pebbles and some Mini Art Stones… But let’s see how I did it.

First, I cut a piece of thick cardboard (from a cardboard box) to make a fitting base for my hoop. I didn’t even glue it, I just made sure it was a tight fit. Next, I attached some leftover tissue paper scraps and folding and crumbling them a little, attached with Soft Matte Gel, to create a little bit uneven base. I also glued some ribbon with tiny flat bobs to the edges of the hoop, to create a kind of framing. Then I primed the whole thing twice with Heavy Gesso, and added some stencil marks (my all-time favourite, Iris Tapestry) with White Gold and Frosty Pearl Icing Paste.

Next step was to create a simple collage, using Heavy Body Gel, I attached a piece of a frame from the new Imaginarium Grungy Frames mould I had managed to break, with two metallic flowers and two Woodland leaves, and added an Antique Label to finish it. I also added just a hint of Mini Art Stones and a couple (ok, seven) art pebbles onto the base, to tie the composition and background better together.

I painted the background with Liquid Acrylics Titanium White, Prussian Blue, Avocado Green, Umber, and Burnt Sienna, with a hint of Ink Black. I used the same colours for the actual composition, too.
